Coupons Confuse Me

I really want to use coupons.

Everytime I go to the grocery store, I see people with so many coupons and I never have any,

I mean, I know enough when shopping online to get my Online Coupon Codes and I have definitely saved alot through that.

However, when I go shopping, the coupons in the paper are never for the things that I buy.  I suppose I could just buy those things that there is a coupon for, but that doesn’t really make sense because then it just sits in the cupboard or refrigerator never being used.

Of course I watch Extreme Couponing.  The only thing that makes me think of is that they have these shelves filled with more toothpaste than they could ever use in a lifetime.

I’ve heard that I can enter my store id number on the computer and it will automatically deduct from my total, but I have not tried that yet.

So, my question to you is:  How do I do this?  Do I change my buying habits to go along with the coupons or is there some secret to this that noone’s ever told me about.  It’s like I missed this class and everyone else has gone and learned.

Any help would be appreciated.

  1. I’m fairly new to couponing, but this is what my basic understanding is.

Find out what your store’s coupon policy is. Many will let you use a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item. They will also allow competitor coupons (and they will tell you who they consider competitors). If they have a BOGO free offer, some will allow you to use coupons on the free item as well.

So, if $2 spaghetti sauce is buy one get one free, you can use a manufacturer’s coupon and a store/competitor coupon on both. If you had 4 coupons (.50 each), you would get both of them for free.

Read your store’s limits though, because they can vary. Some will only allow you to purchase so many of the same item, so you might not be able to get a cart full of spaghetti sauce, even if you have dozens of coupons.

  2. I feel kind of stupid asking this, but I can’t find where I can leave a message on your site. I get so much great information from you, and I’d like to respond. Is it something right in front of my nose and I can’t see it?
